The Darien Blue Wave’s final tune-up before a second showdown with rival New Canaan was a winner.
Sophomore Lucie Edwards broke out with her first career hat trick as the Darien girls ice hockey team rolled past the Ridgefield/Danbury co-op, 6-1, Wednesday night at the Winter Garden Ice Arena in Ridgefield.
The win pushed the Blue Wave’s winning streak to six games, as they get ready to take on New Canaan at 7:10 p.m., Saturday, at the Darien Ice House. The two rivals met earlier this season, with the Rams defeating the Wave, 3-0.
Darien (9-3 overall, 7-1 FCIAC) outshot Ridgefield, 37-14, but the game was scoreless after one period.
Two two teams traded goals to start the second frame, with Edwards found the net for Darien, and Julia Bongo responding for Ridgefield.
The Wave then broke the game open with three goals to end the second period with a 4-1 lead. Colleen Cassidy started that run with an assist from Kit Arrix, and Edwards followed with two goals, including one short-handed.
Shea van den Broek and Kate Bellissimo scored in the third period for the final tally.
