To the Editor:
On a beautiful day in September 2017, I was in a near fatal motorcycle accident while riding my Harley home from work on Mansfield Avenue in Darien. My life as I knew it changed forever when the driver of a Mercedes traveling in the opposite direction came into my lane to make a left-hand turn in front of me into the Country Club of Darien even though the driver stated he saw me beforehand.
It’s a little more than a year into my recovery since the horrific accident and my wife and I want to express our very heartfelt gratitude to some very good people who touched our lives.
Thank you: Artie for calling my wife — telling her I had been in a very serious motorcycle accident — that you drove up to the scene and were the first person to help and comfort me while I laid in the road bleeding and broken; Darien Police Department, Darien Fire Department, Post 53 for taking care of me after the accident; Doctors and nurses at Stamford Hospital for the care you provided while I was undergoing surgeries and starting my recovery, especially Dr. Zelazny, Dr. Slate, ER; Ridgefield Fire Department — fast response getting me to Danbury Hospital after I suffered a stroke at the SNF I was transferred to from Stamford Hospital; Danbury Hospital doctors and nurses! Masonicare of Newtown — all staff, nurses, physical therapists – for your care while I lived there recovering — dealing with pain, physical changes and new limitations I will have with my body for the rest of my life. Thankful my beloved dog could come visit me every day! Greenwood Physical Therapy — great; Neurology Therapists in Danbury — working on my traumatic brain injury! New Canaan Fire Department — thank you for your love and support! Being a member of NCFD for almost 40 years has given me such pride.
To God in Heaven and His Son Jesus Christ — we put our trust in you. To family and friends who visited, comforted, helped us get things done/fixed, cooked, sent well wishes, kept us in prayer— we love you and are so very grateful for all your help and support — especially Mom, Maura, Henry, Tracey & Stephen, Mary, Ed, Candace & Shaun, David & Paula, Adam and Andrew!
