Darien girls hockey rolls past Ridgefield, 8-1, for third win

The Darien girls ice hockey team made it three dominating victories in three games with an 8-1 blowout of the Ridgefield/Danbury co-op tam Saturday at the Darien Ice House.

The game was actually tight early on as the teams were tied 1-1 after one period. The Wave took control in the second frame, scoring four times for a 5-1 lead en route to the win.

Darien improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the FCIAC heading into a Monday night showdown against rival New Canaan (3-0). That game will begin at 7:10 p.m. at the Darien Ice House.

Against Ridgefield (1-1-1 overall, 0-1-1 FCIAC), Darien had eight goal scorers, a group that was led by sophomore Nelle Kniffin, who had a goal and two assists.

Colleen Cassidy, Kelly Raymond and Kit Arrix each had a goal and an assist; Shea van den Broek dished out two assists; and Caitlin Chan, Ceci Stein, Catherine Martin, and Kate Bellissimo also scored.

For Ridgefield, goalie Kendal Mountain racked up 29 saves against 37 Wave shots.

Hallie Kreppein made eight saves to nail down the win for Darien.
