Stanford’s Alex Ostberg, a member of the Darien High School Class of 2015, earned All-American honors for the second time by finishing 13th at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, held at the University of Wisconsin on Nov. 17.
Ostberg, a senior on the Stanford University cross country team, placed in the top 20 for the second year in a row, while the Cardinal was fifth as a team.
Ostberg covered the 10,000-meter course in 29:33.
“Awesome race for Alex,” said DHS cross country and track head coach Tyson Kaczmarek. “He split about 14:15 at 5K and finished the second half of the race strong. The course conditions were not the best to say the least. Alex did not get in a full summer of training and still finished very well.”
Ostberg, who was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team for the second consecutive year, was projected to finish 16th by Flo-Track back in August.
“Hopefully, Alex can crack the top 10 next year. He proved he can run with the lead pack.”
Ostberg earned All-America honors for the first time last year when he placed 16th at the NCAA Championships. He was Stanford’s No. 2 runner and helped the team finish fourth in the race.
