Thunderstorms cause hazardous weather outlook, small craft advisory for Darien Saturday

Thunder Lighting Warming

Heavy rain showers and thunderstorms are predicted for Darien and the rest of southern Connecticut as well as southeast New York Saturday afternoon in evening, according to the National Weather Service. These storms could cause heavy, gusty winds and localized flooding. On the positive side, the storms seem to cause a break in the heat and humidity beginning Sunday.

A small craft advisory is also in effect from the National Weather Service through 6 p.m. Sunday for the coastal waters from Montauk, New York to Martha’s Vineyard. Northeast winds could be up to 15 to 20 knots with gusts up to 25 knots with seas up to three to five feet. A small craft advisory means that wind speeds of 25 to 33 knots or seas five feet or great are expeted to produce wave conditions to small craft. In experienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in these conditions.
