Letter: Stevenson says she is the right choice for Republican for lieutenant governor

To the Editor:

The November election will be our last chance to save Connecticut. The economy is stagnant, deficits are exploding and more people pack their bags every day. A Republican victory is our last hope.

We have strong conservative candidates for governor – but our party barely registers 25% of voters.  We need a great ticket to expand our base.

This makes our choice for Lieutenant Governor incredibly important—and I am the only candidate who can help Republicans win in November.

Joe Markley is too far-right.  He is a lifelong politician and staunch ideologue– the only member of the Senate to vote against legislation to protect women from sexual assault on college campuses.  In a cycle when Democrats are running solely on anti-Trump hysteria, Joe Markley will sentence us to defeat.

Erin Stewart on the other hand, is a liberal campaigning as a fiscal conservative.  She has increased taxes and debt so aggressively in New Britain that the leading Democrat there, Carlo Carlozzi calls her spending “unsustainable.” She also favors legalizing drugs and protecting collective bargaining.  She does not have the experience or the instincts to effectively address Connecticut’s complex fiscal problems.

I, Jayme Stevenson am a true fiscal conservative—  elected four times with landslide majorities and a leader who makes the tough choices on spending and taxes. I am the two-time elected chairman of my regional Council of Governments and have six years of experience as a bond analyst.  I am also a mother of five children and passionate about protecting families—from ensuring an excellent education for every child to combatting the addiction crisis gripping our state.

This election is our last hope to save Connecticut, and I am the RIGHT candidate to expand our base and bring Republicans victory in November.  I ask for your support on Aug. 14.

Jayme Stevenson

First Selectman
