A New Canaan teen was arrested for stealing $340 worth of merchandise from Kirby Girl, an apparel store on Brook Street. A store employee contacted police just after 3 p.m. on July 3 to report that the theft had just taken place.
Employees told police a suspect had been observed placing items in an open-top bag. When approached, the suspect began to speak to someone on their phone and walked out of the front door. A description was given to officers in the area and she was located near Post Road and Center Street. When questioned, the suspect admitted to being in the store and taking items without paying. The items in question were still in the bag they had on their person.
The owner of the store stated there had been a separate theft on June 26, 2017. A review of the in-store camera recording showed what appeared to be the same suspect concealing items in their bag. The exact items and value of that theft were unknown. The suspect was transported to headquarters, where a parent was contacted. The suspect was issued a juvenile summons to appear in Stamford Court, and was released to their parent.
