The Darien YMCA is hosting the workshop, “Fully Balanced,” a two-day event to strengthen, enlighten, and revitalize your whole body. The sessions will be held on Wednesday, July 18, and Thursday, July 19, from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. in the Y’s mind/body studio. It will be led by certified vinyasa yoga teacher Elizabeth Stern, and health and fitness director Jessica Van Sciver. The cost is $15 for one day, $25 for both days for Y members, and $20 for one day; $30 for both days for non-members. Advanced registration is required.
Day 1 of this workshop will focus on standing balances and inversions, paying close attention to the lower body with a special emphasis on mobility as well. Also included is practicing hip openers along with core and body weight exercises. Day 2 will shift the focus to arm balances and back bends. This day will work to improve upper body strength and mobility, along with enhancing the power of the core.
One of the leaders of this workshop, Stern, uses her competitive and international figure skating background in addition to more than 20 years of knowledge to create a well-balanced yoga class focusing on strength, flexibility and mobility.
