This years Darien Fireworks event will take place on Saturday, July 7 at Darien High School with a rain date of Sunday, July 8. Gates will open at 6:30 and a community band will begin playing at 7 followed by a new band this year, Lackluster Brother, which will begin at 8:00. The fireworks will then begin at 9.

Parking passes went on sale  Monday, June 25 and will go to Friday, July 6 and can only be purchased in the Selectman’s office. Parking passes are required to park on the Darien High School campus and passes will not be sold onsite at the event. For questions regarding purchasing a parking pass, call (203) 656-7338.

All pedestrian traffic and off-campus parking is free and all vehicular traffic with pre-purchased parking passes must enter through Noroton Avenue. A handicap permit is required to park in limited handicap parking spaces. Off-campus parking lots within 1 mile of DHS campus are Middlesex Middle School and McGuane Field.

Susan Daly from the Parks & Recreation department said, “Parks and Recreation has taken it over to make it more of a community event than it has been. We ask for peoples patience and we predict a great show.”

A big difference in this year’s fireworks process is the new launching site for the fireworks. This year, they will be at the very end of the parking lot on the turn around by the football field. This will seize burn marks on the turfs and results in the bleachers being restricted from any seating.

Daly wanted to make the public aware that clean up will take place in a timely fashion whether on Sunday morning or Monday morning, depending on whether the event is on Saturday or Sunday, since clean up cannot take place at night.

Food vendors that will be attending the event include: Meltmobile, Valencia Luncheria, Boxcar Cantina, Lucky Dog, Blue Wave Taco, LobsterCraft, Mister Softee and Edison’s Famous Ice.

Lead sponsors are Darien Parks & Recreation, the Town of Darien, and Darien Chamber of Commerce. Star Spangled Sponsors include: Baywater Properties, Darien Sports Shop NFL, First, County Bank, PG Properties, Halstead, Macguire Cheswick & Tuttle, Rings End, and WRE, LLC.
