Get ready for two days of New Canaan vs. Darien lacrosse.
With trips to the state finals on the line, the arch-rivals will square off in the CIAC Class L girls and boys lacrosse semifinals beginning tonight.
First up is the girls semifinal, with No. 5 New Canaan (15-5) facing No. 1 Darien (19-2) at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Brien McMahon’s Jack Casagrande Field.
That game will be preceded by the other Class L semifinal between No. 2 Cheshire (16-2) and No. 6 Ridgefield (13-5) at 5 p.m.
In their regular season meeting at Darien High School, the Wave defeated the Rams 12-6. In the first two rounds of the state playoffs, Darien defeated Staples 20-10, and Ludlowe 15-8, while New Canaan defeated Glastonbury 17-5, and Wilton 10-6.
On Wednesday, the top-seeded Blue Wave (21-0) will face fourth-seeded New Canaan (16-5) in the Class L boys lacrosse semifinal at 5 p.m. at Fairfield Prep.
That game will be followed by a second Class L semifinal between No. 6 Ridgefield (14-5) and No. 7 Glastonbury (13-5) at 7:30 p.m.
This will be the third meeting of the season between the two rivals, and each of the first two games were close. In the regular season clash on April 28, Darien won 9-7, and in the FCIAC final on May 25, Darien won a 13-12 thriller.
The Wave rolled over Xavier 23-4 in the opening round of the state tournament and then fought off a tough Wilton squad 11-10 in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
New Canaan routed Ludlowe 17-3 in the first round, and also won a tough game in the quarterfinals, 9-7, over Fairfield Prep.
The CIAC State finals will be held on Saturday, June 9, at Brien McMahon for the boys, and Jonathan Law for the girls. Times will be announced after the match-ups have been determined.
