A Better Chance in Darien to hold spring raffle for Vespa

A Vespa scooter worth $3600 is one of three raffle prizes to be awarded on May 30 to benefit A Better Chance in Darien (ABC), an organization dedicated to helping young scholars live and study in Darien.

Second prize is a $250 gift certificate from Palmer’s and third prize is a $100 gift certificate from Nielsen’s Florists. The money raised by the raffle will help ABC continue its mission to provide academic and boarding scholarships to highly motivated and academically promising female students of color from underserved communities. The scholars of ABC make a four year commitment to attend Darien High School, spend one weekend monthly with a local host family, and participate in many school and community activities.

In the past some winners have donated their prizes to better support ABC House. Last year, the winner of the Palmer’s gift certificate donated the prize to fund snacks, meals and an ice cream sundae bar to help scholars during final exams.

Raffle tickets will be sold outside Palmer’s Market on May 12 and May 19, The Darien Sports Shop on May 26, and at all upcoming Darien High School/Middlesex Middle School orchestra, band and choral concerts.

The drawing will be held on May 30 at 4 p.m. at the ABC House, 103 Tokeneke Road, and it is not necessary to attend the drawing in order to win.
