The first light pole has been installed at Darien High School as of Monday, July 10.
At the June 20 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Dr. Dan Brenner informed the Board that construction on the stadium at DHS, including the lights, had begun. Brenner said that would continue to provide updates during his comment time at meetings going forward.
Recycling of the rubber pellets on the field and the stripping of the old turf had begun, with crews working from around 6:30 in the morning until dark.
Underground utilities were marked out and digging began as well.
At the June 20 meeting, it was said that the crews were exceeding what they expected to be done each day, and the projects so far are on or ahead of schedule. Work on the track around the stadium is expected to begin in late July as well. The crews are targeting Aug. 8 for completion of everything inside the fenced area, with Aug. 11 being the completion date for the lights. Following those dates, screening trees will be planted.
