Memorial Day: What’s open and closed?

Monday, May 29, is Memorial Day and, as is the case with most other federal holidays, many businesses and town organizations will be closed.

The town’s parade will step off from Good Wives’ shopping center at 10 a.m. and head down the Post Road.

Below is a compiled list, although by no means totally comprehensive, of which places around Darien will continue to keep their doors open and which ones will be closed.

The Darien YMCA will remain open on Memorial Day from 7 a.m to 12 p.m. Group Fitness classes will run on a regular schedule, but no children’s programs or lessons will be hosted.

Palmer’s Market in Darien will be open as usual from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Stop & Shop and Darien’s Whole Foods Market will also have business hours as usual.

Bodega, Ten Twenty Post and Estia’s Back Porch are all open Monday.

Chez Ernie’s at 25 Tokeneke Road will open at 9 a.m to host a Memorial Day party in time for the parade.

Center Street Public House, 22 Center Street, invites all to celebrate Memorial Day from 11 to 2, with a free draft beer with any burger or BBQ item, and free hot dogs for kids.

Need a parade breakfast? Upper Crust Bakery at 980 Post Road will be open 7 to 3 p.m. Uncle’s Deli, 1041 Post Road,  will be open 7 to 4 p.m. The Sugar Bowl will be closed.

Meatball & Co., 20 Center Street,  will be open but may delay opening until 12.

Jimmy’s Southside in Noroton Heights will be closed for the holiday.

The Goose will be closed but will participate in the Post 53 Food Fair, beginning after the parade at Tilley Pond Park. Other vendors include Palmer’s Market, Michael Joseph’s, Fisherman’s Net, and Smoky Joe’s. The Darien Community Band will play at noon.

The Darien Town Hall, the Darien Public School system, the Darien Times, the Darien Sport Shop, the postal office, the Darien YWCA, the Darien Library, and local banks will all be closed on Memorial Day. Likewise, no classes will be held at the Darien Arts Center either.
