Each year, Darien Boy Scouts place over 2,000 flags at Darien’s historical veterans’ cemetery in preparation for Memorial Day. Darien Times’ columnist Rebecca Martorella, who is active in scouting with her son Daniel, and photographer Kristen Riolo recently caught them in action in the above slideshow.

The town’s parade kicks off on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Goodwives Shopping Center and continues to Spring Grove cemetery where there will be a ceremony and speakers.

The parade’s Grand Marshal is Ned Goodnow — read more about Mr. Goodnow here.

The parade’s speaker is Phil Kraft, former head of the town’s VFW chapter. Read more about Mr. Kraft here.

After the parade, EMS Post 53 will be holding its annual food fair at Tilley Pond Park. Read more about the food fair here.

Check out more information about the town’s significant veterans’ history, a guide to parade events, a photo guide to so many of the town’s current and past service members in this year’s Memorial Day special section downloadable and viewable here.

This year’s Memorial Day special feature was on Major Chris Collins, Darien High Class of ’93, who served in the Blue Angels. Read more about Maj. Collins here.

The Darien Times’ Dan Arestia will be covering the parade — follow the action at twitter.com/Darientimes.
