Darien’s annual cross walk is upcoming, along with other Easter church services and activities

As Holy Week begins this Sunday with Palm Sunday, Darien’s churches and community organizations have several services events planned.

Darien’s Easter services include the traditional Good Friday cross walk from First Congregational Church to St. Luke’s, ending with a three-hour community service. There is also an annual Easter Egg hunt on Good Friday at 10 a.m. at the Darien Community Association. Christ Community Church also plans a showing of the movie, “The Passion,” at Darien Library at 2:30 p.m. on Good Friday. Let us know your Easter-related events at [email protected]

Good Friday: April 14

10:30 a.m. — The traditional time of prayer begins at the Congregational Church, as we process in a ‘Cross Walk’ through the town, followed by a three-hour service of word and song, noon to 3 p.m., at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

Easter Sunday, April 16

10 — The Feast of the Resurrection:A worship Service that will celebrate the joy of our salvation, followed by a time of fellowship!

Good Friday, April 14

6 a.m. Chapel and church open for prayer

7 a.m. Way of the Cross in the church

10 to 12 — Good Friday Stations of the Cross for children (Youth & Community Center)

10:45 a.m. Community Procession of the Cross — Beginning at First Congregational Church, 14 Brookside Road, Darien and ending at St. Luke’s for the Ecumenical Service

12 to 3 p.m. Community Ecumenical Service. Worshippers may come and go as they

wish during the three hours.

The Great Vigil of Easter, April 15

3:30 p.m. Easter Service for Children followed by an egg hunt. Families are encouraged to bring Easter baskets for their children.    

7:00 p.m. The Easter Vigil: A Dramatic Celebration of Easter — Bring a sweet or savory treat to share at the festive reception to follow.

Easter Day, April 16

7:45 a.m. Holy Eucharist and Hymns in the Church — Features organ, brass, timpani and hymns.

9:15 a.m. Festival Holy Eucharist in the Church — Featuring choir, brass, organ and timpani.

9:15 a.m. Family Holy Eucharist with organ and hymns in the Chapel

11:15 a.m. Festival Holy Eucharist,

Childcare available 7:30 am– 12:30 pm
