Darien enters a historic season.

Finding itself tossing the first pitch as FCIAC defending champions for the first time since 1982, Cord Fox, Casey Brown and Peter Marren captain the Wave.

I think that our strength is in our hitting this year with a very powerful lineup.

“I think that we definitely have some very strong returning starters from last year,” said Fox. “They include Peter Marren, Casey Brown, Sean O’Malley, Justin Jordan, Jake Geddes, and myself.”

Darien loses stars, including 10 graduated seniors in all. Among them the Drake Brothers, Andrew Winsch, Mark Schmidt and Richard Brereton.

“We did graduate a lot of seniors and that left a lot of positions open, but I think that creates a more competitive environment because kids are still fighting for positions,” Fox said. “And there will be a lot of changes to the lineup as some kids start to step up.”

Big hitters are Fox, Brown, O’Malley, Marren.

“I would say that us four are the big power hitters,” Fox said. “Justin Jordan is also very consistent and gets on base a lot. Not as much power, but he is very fast.”

And like in the FCIAC final, again hitting is what’s going to get it for DHS in a pinch.

“I think that our strength is in our hitting this year with a very powerful lineup,” said Fox. “Defensively we haven’t really defined ourselves, but pitchers like Jake Geddes and Justin Jordan are very reliable on the mound, which is a big asset to the team.”
