Darien’s 2016 was about its best ever.

Losing lots to graduation, though, means the encore will not be quite so vibrant. Still, there will be an encore.
“In 2016 the Blue Wave had an undefeated regular season, won the Chappa Invitational — first in school history — and the FCIAC Championship, before ending tied for fifth at the Division I State Championship,” said Darien coach of 27 seasons, Tom O’Donnell. “And graduating the most talented senior class in (my) years as coach, although this year’s team will be in rebuilding mode early, look for the Wave to improve throughout the season and once again to qualify to compete in the FCIAC and Division I Championships.”
The strong wind from last year’s hurricane is bound to help push the Wave along as O’Donnell enters the season 587-191-11 as Darien coach.
“They will be led by returning varsity players Will Wilson (junior) and Blake Swiggett (sophomore),” O’Donnell said. “ A number of returners and promising newcomers should provide spirited competition for the remaining varsity spots.”
