Tellers stop fraud attempt using stolen card and license

A 45-year-old Norwalk woman reported two credit cards stolen from her purse at Trader Joe’s, 436 Boston Post Road, on Feb. 27. Employees at the market contacted police at 2:15 p.m.
The woman told police she had received a message from People’s Choice Bank verifying whether she had requested a cash advance for $2,500 while shopping that afternoon. When she checked, two debit cards, her driver’s license and two casino reward cards had gone missing from her purse. She reported the theft to employees at the store after being contacted.
Police investigation showed that the card had been used by a woman at the nearby Chase Bank, where two separate cash advances were denied. Employees told police the woman attempted to use the stolen driver’s license to verify her identity, but was denied. The suspect was accompanied by another woman and they both left the scene.
The investigation is still ongoing, and police are attempting to identify the suspect using video surveillance footage.
