Darien Community Association team prevails at The Depot's annual community spelling bee

The Depot’s annual community spelling bee was Sunday. Emcees for the event were David Genovese of Baywater Properties, top, left, and Gina Zangrillo of the Darien Sport Shop, top, far right. Darien is still “abuzz” over the community spelling bee held at the Town Hall on Sunday afternoon which was sponsored by Carnegie Pollak and benefited The Depot Youth Center.  More than 200 people came out to either participate or watch the 26 teams compete over words such as “garrulous,” “occurrence,” “cantaloupe” and “acquiesce.”
In the end, the Darien Community Association team consisting of Amy Bell, Laura Boulton and Kristen Harnisch claimed first prize trophies by spelling “insouciance” correctly.  Emcees for the event were David Genovese of Baywater Properties and Gina Zangrillo of the Darien Sport Shop.  Janice Marzano of The Depot and Officer James Palmieri served as judges.
