Joan Skinner Love, 86, formerly of Shippan Point, Stamford, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 3, at Waveny Care Center in New Canaan with family at her side.
Mrs. Love was born on Dec. 16, 1925, in Arlington, Mass. She was the daughter of Harry and Nora Skinner. She was raised and educated in Massachusetts, graduating from Needham High School and Mt. Ida Junior College. Upon graduation, she pursued a career in merchandising at the Jordan Marsh Company in Boston.
She married James F. Love of Brookline, Mass., in 1948 and moved to New York City. After several years in New York, Mr. and Mrs. Love moved to Stamford where they raised their five children.
Mrs. Love was a former member of the Shippan Point Garden Club, the Stamford Yacht Club and enjoyed volunteering at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stamford.
Upon retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Love resided in Harwich Port, Massachusetts and Venice Florida.
Mrs. Love is survived by her sons, Crispin E. Love and his wife Carrie of New Canaan, James F. Love Jr. and his wife Pam of Darien, Bruce J. Love and his wife Katherine of Darien; daughters, Sharon McBride and her husband Michael of Midlothian, Va., and Paula Dwyer and her husband Stephen of New Canaan. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, Kelly Love, Crispin Love, Jr., Catlin McBride, Colleen McBride, Lauren McBride, Gregory Anuskewicz, Lindsay Holland, Jeffrey Dwyer, Capt. Kevin Dwyer, USMC, Katherine Dwyer, Maddy Love, Jameson Love, Will Love, Brian Love, Kevin Love, Emma Love, and six great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her sister Marion Cramer of Braintree, Massachusetts.
Mrs. Love was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, James F. Love, and her sister Ruth Barr.
A family graveside service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Cape Cod, Mass.
