Register now for Darien Nature Center summer programs

The Darien Nature Center is currently taking online and in-person registration for its 2013 summer programs

Summertime for 2’s, is a two-hour drop off nature enrichment program for 2-year-olds. Using animals and nature as learning tools, each day the children will have a lesson, story, outdoor time, snack, a craft and some animal time. Children may be signed up for one or two days per week for six weeks.

Our Living Planet, a program designed for children ages 3 to 5, runs for six weeks, from June 24 to Aug. 2, from 9 to 1. Children may be signed up by the week and at this time there are still openings in all age groups.

The children will explore the natural wonders to be found near and far, with weekly themes. Our Living Planet is a favorite with young children, as they have access to the nature center animals, hold a weekly concert and explore the pond and trails in Cherry Lawn Park. Activities include nature hikes, games, stories, songs and water day.

Planet Patrol, a summer program designed for the active 6, 7 and 8 year old child, runs from 8:45 to 12:45 p.m. each day. Children may be signed up by the week. The six weekly themes for Planet Patrol are: Project Base Camp; Trail Blazers; Roughing It; High Energy; Wild about Water and Into the Wild. A field trip based program, Planet Patrolers will build their own shelter and spend the majority of their time outdoors, fishing, hiking, orienteering, ponding, kite flying and exploring.

They will be armed with fishing poles, ropes, compasses, microscopes, water bottles, nets, kites and other outdoor gear.
