Darien Police: Stamford construction co. owner arrested for fraud

A Stamford construction company owner was arrested in Darien for bilking subcontractors and a homeowner out of a combined almost $60,000 on a home improvement job.

Ralph Darinzo, 49, of  Stamford, was arrested by the Darien Police Department on charges of two counts of larceny in the first degree.  Darinzo was arrested by warrant.

Darinzo, who is the owner of Ralph Darinzo Construction, was the focus of an investigation which began in January  2011.  The Darien Police received a complaint that Darinzo had started home improvements at a home, and had been paid up front by the homeowner to cover the initial costs to initiate the job.

During the course of the project, Darinzo continued to ask the homeowner for payments, which he received, to pay the subcontractors hired to do work at the home. Despite being paid for the scheduled work, Darinzo failed to perform some of the work, and failed to pay the subcontractors.  One subcontractor in particular was bilked out of $38,000, and the complainant was bilked out of $28,000, leading to the two charges of larceny in the first degree.

Darinzo was arrested in Stamford on Feb. 8 for similar charges.

Darinzo was released after posting a$50,000 dollar bond.  His next court appearance is Feb. 22 at Stamford Superior Court.
