Christensen honored on Saturday as elder leader of the ice pack

Wave ninth grader with scoring talent to the Nth Degree, Georgia Cassidy, had the hat trick in Darien’s 6-1 win over Wilton-Norwalk-Staples coop at the Sono Ice House on Tuesday.

Cassidy leads Girls Wave Hockey with 23 goals, 12 assists for 35 points.

Darien scored three in each of the first and second periods.

Marissa Baker scored at 1:45 into the game for a 1-0 lead assisted by Cassidy, and Cassidy made it 2-0 from Julia Arrix.

Allegra Molkenthin closed out the opening stanza for 3-0. Schuyler van den Broek had the helper.

Cassidy’s second of the night made it 4-0 in the second assisted by Sage Thacher.

Thacher put Darien up 5-0 set up by Ellie Bennett and Sammy Nielsen.

Cassidy put on the hat for 6-0 from Lily Christensen.

Perri Blicht scored to break the shutout with 6:38 left on the clock in the third.

Wave goalie Izzy Scribano made six saves.

Brooke Jonsson made 26 stops in goal for the hosts.

Darien improves to 14-2-1 overall, 10-1 FCIAC, having only lost by a couple to first place New Canaan in the county this season.

The Wave is right behind the first place Rams in the FCIAC standings.

The Wave hosts Ridgefield at the Darien Ice Rink 3:50 p.m. on Saturday for Senior Night, when the Rink Cinderella, Belle of the Ice Ball will for the first time be a sole senior — heart and soul senior leader — and four-season standout Christensen.
