Freshman Georgia Cassidy’s hat trick helped to put Darien on top 5-3 over Glastonbury/South Windsor at home Wednesday. It helped an awful lot.

It was tied 2-2 after one period and each team scored once in the second before the Wave scored twice unanswered in the third.

Darien climbs to 9-1-1 overall with the non-league win.

Cassidy scored for 1-0 two minutes into the game and Glastonbury/SW’s Monica Darby tied it 1-1 five minutes later.

Cassidy made it 2-1 with assists from Julia Arrix and Katie Zaro.

Taylor Hallisey knotted it back up 2-2 with 1:30 left in the first period.

Marissa Baker gave Darien its third lead 2:00 into the second period on a setup from Amanda Sload and Sage Thacher.

But back came Glastonbury/SW as Leyna DiMarco scored for 3-3 assisted by Maggie Chernovetz.

Cassidy had the winner for the hat trick in the third with an assist from Baker.

Thacher capped it with an empty net goal with two seconds on the clock.

Darien goalie Shannon Hall stopped seven shots.

Annie Henderson made 32 saves in the Glastonbury/SW net.
