Rizzuto, Del Col pace Wave in slope opener

The Darien High School ski team got off to a good start in its first race of this new season against Greenwich, Litchfield, New Canaan, and Laurelton Hall at the Mt. Southington Ski Area on Jan. 9.

The girls varsity was second with a time of 327.32, defeating Laurelton Hall (366.51) and losing to Greenwich (324.50).

The boys had a time of 311.06 to finish second defeating Greenwich (311.36) and Litchfield (356.02) while losing to New Canaan (307.15).

Girls’ times: Fay Rizzuto 50.41 (Co-captain), Katharine Graham 50.97, Taylor Hart 52.49, Kelsey Edgar 55.67 (Co-captain), Abby Howe 57.27, Courtney Kyritz 60.51, Caitlin Keady 62.29, Madison Maier 64.34, Bridget Lattimer 64.53, and Ali Bonfils 72.85.

Boys’ times: Peter Del Col 47.78 (Co-captain), Chris Brophy 50.25 (Co-captain), Will McCoy 51.51, Graham Lesko 53.43, Matt Nelson 53.57, Nick Wolf 54.52, Mac Forbes 58.19, Andy Mogenson DSQ, Mike Rizzuto DSQ, and Nick Howe DSQ.

Coaches Brian Zeyer and Marc Power are leading the teams again this year.

“The boys and girls teams both had good nights,” Zeyer said. “The snow conditions were not the best but the teams did a great job.”
