Young Darien musicians to perform in Norwalk Youth Symphony

The Norwalk Youth Symphony, serving 30 towns in Connecticut and New York, presents the second concert of its 57th season on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in Norwalk Concert Hall located at 125 East Avenue, Norwalk.

Young Darien musicians featured include Andrew Qin, Grant Goodrick, Natalie Majd, Brian Wu, Emily Armstrong, Nicole Gagne, Hannah Goodrick, Anna Leunis, Alison Lui, Barbara Luther, and Monet Takeda.

The upcoming concert will include works by Bach (Sleepers Wake), Brahms (Hungarian Dance No. 5), Sibelius (Finlandia), Williams (Raiders From The Lost Ark), Copland (Appalachian Spring).

A special highlight will be a performance by the winner of the 2013 NYS concerto competition, Matthew Henninger. Matthew, a senior from Brookfield High School, will perform the Clarinet Concerto #1 by Weber with the Principal Orchestra.

The Norwalk Youth Symphony will also be holding a silent auction the night of the concert featuring special items such as an evening enjoying a Metropolitan Opera Performance form the radio booth with Mary Jo Heath, NYS parent and Senior Radio Producer at the Met. The winning bidder will watch the opera from the broadcast control room, meet the radio team and enjoy the hustle and bustle of intermission as interview guests are ushered in and out. They will also be treated to dinner in the most exclusive restaurant in all of New York City, the Met’s employee cafeteria, located under the stage.

The Norwalk Youth Symphony is comprised of approximately 240 students from 30 towns throughout Fairfield, New Haven, Litchfield and Westchester counties.

Tickets are priced at $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students and are available at the door before the concert.

Potential members and their families, music teachers, and children age 5 and under are admitted free.
