Santa comes to Darien this weekend!

Santa Claus is coming to town. The Darien Chamber of Commerce has invited kids of all ages to celebrate its third annual Holiday Magic in Darien at Grove Street Plaza this Saturday, Dec., from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. Residents are invited to come meet friends, neighbor, local merchants and shop owners. Music from Tudor choirs will also be provided, and are expected to play popular Christmas songs.

This year Bill Jensen, owner of the Darien Toy Box, has a surprise for children and their parents. Beginning at 4 p.m., kids will be able to ride Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and his friend, Lucy Polar Bear. These mechanical walking animals are the creation of Cherri and Bob Meyer from Wallingford.

“The Meyer’s creations are so popular all year that I had to reserve them for our Saturday Holiday Magic last January,” Jensen said. “They are a wonderful way to share the Christmas spirit, give back to the kids and kick off the holiday season.”

Santa Claus, in the blink of eye, will come down the chimney at 5 p.m. and appear out of the fireplace.

The Darien chamber is also urging area residents to do some of their holiday shopping at small businesses in town.

“Hometown businesses are the backbone of the community and contribute jobs, taxes and support local non-profits and model what the spirit of entrepreneurship can do,” said Carol Wilder-Tamme, president of the Darien chamber. “The more people that support this effort, the greater the benefit for our entire community.”

Sponsors for Holiday Magic in Darien are Baywater Properties, Darien Toy Box, Community Fund of Darien, Grove Street Properties, UCBC, Darien Girl Scouts and the members of the Darien Chamber of Commerce.

Tamme also urged residents to recognize and appreciate the lighting and wreath displays that enhance the holiday experience in Darien. This annual project is coordinated by the chamber and funded in partnership with the chamber, the town and private contributions.
