Obituary: Thomas Matthew Daley, 70, owner of Darien bookstore

Thomas Matthew DaleyThomas Matthew Daley of Darien, a co-owner of Barrett Bookstore in Noroton Heights,  died at Stamford Hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 21. Mr. Daley, 70, was the husband of Sheila Ewing Daley.

The son of Robert N. Daley and Catherine Foley of Wellesley, Mass., he was born in Boston on Aug. 15, 1941. Mr. Daley graduated from St. Sebastian’s Country Day School in 1959 and from Boston College in 1963 with a bachelor of science degree in marketing. He was a member of the New York Stock Exchange from 1967-97 when he retired from Henderson Brothers where he worked as a specialist. 

Mr. Daley was a member of Wee Burn Country Club and Noroton Yacht Club and co-owner of Barrett Bookstore since 1997.


Besides his wife, Mr. Daley is survived by his children, William M., Christopher and Maria Daley; and nine grandchildren.

The family received friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 26.  A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John RC Church on Tuesday, Dec. 27. Burial followed at Spring Grove Cemetery.
