Obituary: Ann Ward Gibb, 86, longtime Darien resident was artist

Ann Ward Gibb, a former longtime Darien resident and artist, died Thursday, Dec. 15, in Redding. Mrs. Gibb, 86, was the wife of John Richmond Gibb.

Mrs. Gibb was born in New York City on Jan. 19, 1925, to Gregg Thomas Ward and Ann Robinson Ward. She attended Laurelton Hall and graduated from Cornell University in 1945 with a degree in Fine Arts. During her undergraduate years, she was also an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

Mrs. Gibb lived in Darien for 55 years. She was an accomplished artist and well as the mother of three. "She particularly loved to paint the moors, beaches and cranberry bogs of Nantucket, where the family maintained a home for many years," her family said. She was an elected member of the American Watercolor Society, where she also served on the Board, Knickerbocker Artists, Allied Artists of America, and the Philadelphia Watercolor Club.

She was also dedicated to supporting a number of charitable institutions, including Person-to-Person and Darien EMS-Post 53. "She will be greatly missed by her family and friends," they said.

Besides her husband of 65 years, Mrs. Gibb is survived by her three children: Kathy Gibb Cutler of New Haven; James Gibb and his wife Catherine of Little Egg Harbor, N.J.; and Thomas Ward Gibb of New York City.

Her brother, Thomas A. Ward predeceased her.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 11:30, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1864 Post Road, Darien.
