Obituary: Wayne E. Malloy, Vietnam veteran earned bronze star

Wayne E. Malloy, 64, a deacon at St. John Parish in Darien, died peacefully with his family at his side, on Monday, Nov. 28, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

He was born to the late Joseph and Helen Malloy, on Aug. 1, 1947 and was a lifelong Stamford resident. Mr. Malloy is survived by his loving wife of 39 years Priscilla (Poochie), and their children Keith, Kara and Jason. He is also survived by his brothers Rev. Joseph Malloy, Donald Malloy and sister Dale Malloy, as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, two uncles and many cousins.

Mr. Malloy served in the U. S. Army, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded several honors including the Bronze Star. Mr. Malloy worked as property manager for the Villa Maria Retreat House in Stamford prior to its closing. At the time of his death he was the manager and deacon at St. John Fisher Seminary in Stamford. He was also a third degree in the Knights of Columbus in the Fairfield Council 11077.

As a deacon, he was assigned to St. Paul Parish, Greenwich and later was assigned to St. John Parish, Darien. He touched the hearts of all who knew him, his family said. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 3 at St. John Church. He was buried at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford on Saturday, Dec. 3.
