Obituary: David D. Dillon Jr., 91, father of Darienite, WWII vet

David D. Dillon Jr. of New Canaan, a World War II veteran and father of a Darien resident, died Thursday, Nov. 17, at Greenwich Hospital. A former Bronxville, N.Y., resident, he was 91.

Born in New York City, July 17, 1920,  he was the son of the late David and Mary Dougherty Dillon. Mr. Dillon graduated from St. John’s University. He served with the U.S. Army’s  310th Counter Intelligence Corps during World War II and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
His professional career spanned more than 40 years in the textile industry. Upon retirement, he moved to New Canaan and was a member of the Senior Men’s Club. He loved to play golf, spend time with his family, watch his grandchildren play sports, and vacation in Chatham, Mass., and Naples, Fla., his family said.

Mr. Dillon is survived by two daughters, Caroline D. Marren and husband David of Darien and Jacqueline K. Dillon; and grandchildren, Katie, Molly, Meg and Peter. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Marion Cherry Dillon.

Calling hours are Sunday, Nov. 20, from 2-6, at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Nov. 21, at 11 at St Aloysius R.C. Church, Cherry Street, New Canaan. Burial will follow in Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y.
