Four Nissans stripped of emissions parts at Post Road dealership

Workers at a Darien car dealership were likely surprised when they started a brand new car and were greeted by an unnaturally loud exhaust system.

Upon further inspection, employees of Nissan Darien learned that the car had been stripped of its oxygen sensor and catalytic converter. In total, two Nissan Armadas and two Xterras were stripped of these parts, costing the dealership $5,000. The theft was discovered on Tuesday, Jan. 24, roughly one week after the cars had been delivered to the dealer.

What's strange, according to Darien Police Capt. Fred Komm, is that the thieves took the time to unbolt the devices rather than saw them off. Employees found bolts nearby the damaged vehicles.

All were parked within the fenced parking lot and were not within security camera range, police said. Police also discovered the chain-linked fence in the rear section of the lot was cut.
