Stepping up to support the 45th Annual Darien Antiques Show, local and area businesses have made donations to a silent auction to be held during the preview party on Friday night, March 2, from 7-9. The antiques show, held at the First Congregational Church of Darien, continues on Saturday and Sunday, March 3 and 4.

"We are so grateful to these merchants for making generous donations," Annette Madden-Kline, who is managing the auction with Jeanne Koren, said. "The goal is to raise money for charitable organizations and guests tend to feel good about vendors who donate. We hope that good feeling translates into patronage for them."

The donors include Jet Blue, Caramoor, MT Heads, Leary's Liquor, 1020 Post, Scena, Elements Yoga, Darien Nature Center, Baskin Robbins, Darien Fire Department, Hands on Pottery, Gofer Ice Cream, Kids U, Chunky Pam's Sweet Shoppe, Barrett Bookstore, Splash, Camp Avenue Carwash, Kennedy's All-American Barber Club, Spree, Lanphier, Williams and Co., Penny Weights, Newman's Own, and The Kiddie Kitchen.

Some of the silent auction offerings include an afternoon sail, four VIP tickets to a concert by Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin, a round of golf at Country Club of Darien, a "Men's Night" catered by a church member, a children's cooking party, a Darien Nature Center birthday party, and a fire truck ride to school.

Now in its 45th year, the Darien Antiques Show features almost 40 exhibitors of fine American, English, and oriental furniture; paintings; silver; jewelry; prints; pottery; and decorative accessories. The event has long been known for offering excellent values in high-quality items. The show opens to the public on Saturday, from 10-5, and Sunday, from 11:30-5. Admission at the door is $10; $8 for seniors and discount card/ad holders. A café, open Saturday and Sunday from 11:30-4, provides lunch, tea, and desserts. Preview Party tickets are $50 at the door and include weekend admission to the show. Partygoers will have the opportunity to make early purchases before the show opens to the public, bid for silent auction items, and enjoy live music, fine wines, and hors d'oeuvres.

Proceeds from the show benefit local charities, including A Better Chance in Darien, which is the primary beneficiary of the Preview Party proceeds; Person-to-Person; George Washington Carver Community Center; Domestic Violence Crisis Center; Center for Hope; St. Luke's Life Works; Feed My Starving Children; Elderhouse; and Pilgrim Towers.

William Pitt Sotheby's International Realty is a platinum sponsor of this year's show, People's United Bank, a gold sponsor, and Connecticut Cottages & Gardens, the media sponsor.

The First Congregational Church of Darien is at the corner of Brookside Road and the Post Road.
