Dr. Sachs returns to St. Luke’s Sunday

At the St. Luke's Discovery Hour on Sunday, Feb. 12, 9-10, in the Parish Hall, the Rev. Dr. William Sachs will speak on the topic Religion vs. Spirituality: A force for Growth for the Church in the 21st Century.

As Sachs will point out, a religion that provides dogmatic answers to spiritual questions is, increasingly, religion that is irrelevant to the spiritual hunger that will build our church in the coming years. The spiritual authority sought is one of dialogue, of a sharing of ideas and competencies that guide worshippers as they construct religious and spiritual meaning for themselves. Sachs will discuss how these changes and challenges are being addressed within the Episcopal framework: at seminaries, in parishes and as a church organization.

While employed as the head of research for the National Episcopal Church, Sachs served as assisting clergy at St. Luke's for three years. He currently holds posts as Director of the Center for Interfaith Reconciliation in Richmond and as a Chabraja Fellow at Seabury Western Theological Seminary in Chicago. He also assists at the First Freedom Center, an international educational organization in Richmond. All are invited to come and hear this most knowledgeable and dynamic speaker on this important topic.
