New Year, new you: Community groups comes together to help you keep those resolutions

Are you asking yourself, "Where do I start with keeping my New Year's resolutions?" The Community Fund of Darien Human Services Planning Council and the Darien Community Association are hosting a community fair, New Year, New You, on Thursday, Feb. 9.

This free event will be held at the DCA, 274 Middlesex Road, from 10-2.

The day is designed with you being the priority. More than 30 community organizations and local businesses will offer something for everyone: health, wellness, and relaxation to career counseling, getting organized, and money management. For stress relief, there will be experts available to teach meditation and yoga. For fun and relaxation, the Darien Arts Center, the senior center, and the DCA will be on hand.

If you're trying to reinvent yourself with your career, the Darien Professionals Network, a career coach, the Workplace Inc., and YWCA of Darien/Norwalk will be there to inform you about what's new out there, and how you can best take advantage of your talents. Financial planners will be on hand, along with help with health care from Health Care Navigation.

Of course, the most common resolutions involve health and fitness and getting organized. The fair features a "de-clutter expert," along with Darien Social Services and a lawyer who can provide guidance regarding wills and other personal issues. For health and fitness, the Health Department, Darien YMCA, Darien EMS-Post 53, and a nutritionist will be happy to assist you in getting and keeping in shape.

Other organizations in attendance will be library, Norwalk Community College, Darien Adult Education, the Community Fund, Person-to-Person, Child Guidance of Southern Connecticut, Domestic Violence Crisis Center, Center for Hope, Darien Family and Youth Options/Thriving Youth, and a psychotherapist.

Visitors to this fair will take away basic information about each activity and receive guidance regarding realistic, manageable ways to pursue their resolutions. In addition to community agencies for adults, there will be a Children's Corner featuring PeaceWorks Puppets and Storytime with the Darien Library. Lunch will be available.

"We are excited to present a one-stop shop for Darien residents to help them reach their goals in 2012," Kiki Karpen, executive director of the Community Fund, said.
