‘Narrative and Nuance’: Darien Library opens new art exhibit in January

The library's art gallery will host a new art exhibit, beginning on Thursday, Jan. 12. The Narrative and Nuance — Work by Henry Caserotti, brings a collection of paintings, created by a local artist to the gallery on the Library's lower level through Feb. 27.

Caserotti, who lives in Norwalk, refers to himself as a self-taught artist.

"When working on a painting I focus both on the subjective and objective. The images presented are meaningful to me, but the painting as an aesthetic object is also important," Caserotti said. "Through the use of texture and color I hope to bring these objects as paintings to a point where the viewer wants to touch them. In my work I strive for a synergy of the objective and subjective which makes the whole greater than it's parts."

Caserotti is primarily influenced by two artists: Gustav Klimt and Edouard Vuillard. Both found great meaning in beauty, the repetition of pattern and, often, in the most everyday subjects.

"The narrative aspect within my paintings is very important. I see them as allegories and parables, but they are not meant to be preachy. They are questions about what it means to be human and represent points along my own journeys. Any answers that arise from them must come from the viewer filling in the blanks," he said.

Dozens of his creations will hang in the lower level of the Library throughout the six-week installation.

As always, the exhibit is free.
