Teri Manning, director of the First Congregational Church Nursery School, will speak at the YWCA Darien/Norwalk community coffee on tips for selecting a nursery school

There are two sessions: Thursday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m., and Thursday, Dec. 8 at 9:30 a.m.

The discussion will cover everything from broad differences in educational philosophies to the specifics: What does a quality program look like? What is the difference between licensing and accreditation? How do I decipher the "edu-speak" I'm bombarded with? How important is teacher student ratio, teacher education and background, and the facility itself? What should I be asking on the tour or at the open house?
