Green Initiative screens ‘Fresh’ at Darien Library

The library will screen the 2009 documentary, "Fresh," on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 7, in an event co-sponsored by the Darien Green Village Initiative.

The film focuses on America's transformation from an agricultural land to one that produces food using an industrial model, and the consequences this shift presents, such as food contamination, pollution, obesity and a depletion in natural resources.

The 72-minute, unrated documentary features several farmers, thinkers and business people across America.

One such character in the film is Will Allen, an urban farmer activist and a 2008 recipient of the MacArthur "genius" grant, who was recently names one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people.

The mission of Darien Green Village Initiative is to promote the greening of our community through local action, education and collaboration to make and sustain change.
