Southworth, freshman Gunn go 1-2 all around

Katie Southworth won the all around, leading Darien gymnastics to a sweep of its match-up vs. South-West Conference competition.

The Wave scored 129.8, with Barlow next with 120.45 and host Weston had 118.95 on Tuesday night.

Senior captain Southworth led with 34.25 AA, 9.0 on bars and 8.5 on beam. She was third with her floor routine notching an 8.7.

Sam Gunn, a freshman, was second AA with 33.25, first on floor with an 8.9, second on bars scoring 8.8.

Freshman Lauren Chung came in fourth in the AA with 33.00, won on vault with 8.4, and was fifth on floor with 8.6.

Ninth grader Kajsa Lundeen was consistent on vault, with bars, scoring a 7.5 on each.

“Junior Marya von Schmidt continues to improve on bars with a 7.85,” Darien coach Ellie Southworth said. “Due to a minorly sprained ankle, she sat out of her other events.”

Julia Murray was solid on the floor with a 7.85.

Darien hosts Fairfield Ludlowe and Warde and New Canaan 3 p.m. Saturday. The last home meet of the season, already, it will mark Senior Day for Southworth and co-captain Katherine Mosher, both four-year standouts.
