DHS makes ready for Greenwich at 6-1

Swim-Dive

Darien finished out the month with a win, climbing to 6-1.

The Wave boys swim-dive team defeated Ridgefield 97-89 away back on Jan. 20.

Darien next is in action Friday at Greenwich.

“It was a good bounce back for us after a close loss at home to Westhill/Stamford,” said Wave coach Jason Cochran, with DHS losing 99-87 in the previous meet. “The guys had one of their most focused practices and showed up ready to win.

“We knew it would be a close meet where every race would matter and it was a true test of who wanted it more.”

Darien mixed up its medley relay and had a good win to open the meet.

“And we posted another great time in the 400 free relay to win and close out the meet,” said Cochran. “In the individual races I felt we performed well but not great.

“We definitely opened the door to make things interesting but we came through in the end.”

Christian Weeks stepped up big winning the 100 breast.

“We are in a good place but we have a lot of work to do,” Cochran added. “The boys already got their wake up call with the loss to Westhill, and now we need to keep our focus and work harder than ever.”

The post season is just a few laps away.

“Overall I think we had some good performances for this time of the season,” Cochran said. “The boys have been training hard and when you add midterm exams to the schedule, exhaustion levels were high.”

Divers thrive

“We continued to have some great diving performances as we took the top three spots,” said Cochran. “Having three divers with this level of talent is a great advantage for us since we are a small team. I continue to look forward to watching Lee, Jackson, and Kyle progress as they have been solid in every meet.”
