Darien boys lacrosse team ‘adopts’ airborne unit deployed to Afghanistan

The focus of the Blue Wave boys lacrosse team is squarely on postseason tournaments come late May.

This year, though, it was a little bit different, as the Blue Wave widened its sights.

Darien’s focus expanded to include America's soldiers in the field.

The team adopted Delta Company, an airborne unit of over 80 soldiers, deployed to Afghanistan in May.

As a sign of support, the boys wore Delta Company's crest on their helmets throughout the season.

The boys wrote letters to the soldiers and collected over 300 pounds of snacks, toiletries and entertainment items that were sent off during the last week of school.
