Led by front-runner all season, sophomore Anne Johnston, Darien girls cross country won the FCIAC Eastern Division title for the second straight year.

Sweeping Norwalk, Trumbull and Danbury at the latter’s course on Tuesday, the Wave beat out Wilton for the division championship, going 16-1 in the league.

Darien is 17-1 overall.

The Wave got by the Hatters 23-32, and beat Norwalk 15-49, Trumbull 15-48.

“Seniors and four-year veterans Ellen Bauer, Grace Loh, and Sarah Colon held off four Danbury runners to assure the victory,” said Darien coach Steve Norris.

The FCIAC Championship meet is Oct. 18 at Waveny in New Canaan.

“Undeated and Conn. second-ranked Ridgefield is the favorite,” Norris said. “Darien has a chance to unseat them.”

Johnston set her fourth course record this season winning in 15:28.

For Darien, Bauer ran in third in 16:40, Loh in fourth in 16:52 and Colon fifth in 16:53.

Johnston broke a Ludlowe time of 15:50 set in 2010.

Also for Darien, Katie Farren was 10th in 17:22, Elisabeth Low 12th in 17:48, Claire Walker 16th in 18:04.
