While visiting a Darien church on Tokeneke Road, someone found a satanic symbol spray painted on two surfaces on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
The person had entered the church at 7:30 p.m. and came outside 20 minutes later and saw the symbol “IVII” in Roman numerals painted on the front door and on the concrete wall along the entryway stairs, police said. The person told police they were concerned that the symbols were considered satanic because the number “six” can be rendered three different ways from the symbols, making the number 666, which is considered the mark of the beast, or Satan, according to the Bible.
