Darien driver seeking sidewalk shortcut surrenders to New Canaan Police

A Thursday afternoon Darien driver trying to avoid downtown traffic ending up surrendering to New Canaan Police after taking a shortcut through the sidewalk.

At about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, the Darien Police Department received reports of a beige Toyota Camry driving on the sidewalk in the area of Post Road and Corbin Drive intersection to get around traffic, according to Sgt. Jeremiah Marron, public information officer for the Darien police.

The Darien police reported to the scene but were not able to locate the vehicle. Later in the day, the New Canaan Police Department had a walk-in subject tell them the Darien police were looking for him because he was driving on the sidewalk.

“New Canaan police determined that the subject was psychologically unstable and had him transported to the hospital for a psychological evaluation,” Marron said.
