Weed Beach festival is Saturday

Darien’s Parks & Recreation Department is inviting the community to kick the summer off right with the Weed Beach Fest on June 17. Sponsored by Ring’s End, Weed Beach Fest promises to be celebration that will bring the community together for music, food and fun in the sun.

The festival is scheduled to run from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and entry is free. A free shuttle to the beach will be available from the Hindley School; parking at Weed Beach will cost $20 for the day. Picnic benches will be available and beach chairs & towels are allowed, but pets, coolers and alcohol will not be permitted.

Weed Beach Fest will feature live music from local bands throughout the day including Wally (3 to 4 p.m.), Gunsmoke (4:30 to 6 p.m.) and Freeplay (6:30 to 8 p.m.). A number of food vendors will also be on-site including Uncle’s Deli, Rory’s Restaurant, Jennifer’s Kitchen, Neat & Kona-Ice.

For kids, there will be three large inflatable play areas as well as craft tables and other activities.  Tickets for the “Kids Cove” activity area will be available for a modest fee at the information table. A number of free contests including water beach-ball toss, corn-hole, ladder-ball & hula-hooping will be available during the day. A schedule of times will be listed on Park & Recreation website and at event. Note that there will be limited spaces available, so be sure to sign up at information booth on day of event.

Local vendors at Weed Beach Fest will include Lady Ming Jewelry, Clare Hare Darien Resortware, Beauty Counter Skin Care, Babybox, Just Breathe Essential Oils, Hart strings Jewelry, Lularoe Clothing Line, Chloe & Isabel Jewelry, Fair Harbor Board Shorts, Dom’s Flowers and Gifts, Touchstone Crystal, Patrice Collection, Park Animal Hospital and SoVita Chiropractor of Stamford.

Ring’s End is the event’s presenting sponsor; other sponsors include Uncle’s Deli of Darien and Stamford Baywater Properties, Darien Rowayton Bank, Weston & Sampson, Rucci Law Group, Opus for Person to Person, Dibico Construction Inc. and Servepro, First County Bank, Whole Foods and Spring Grove Cemetery.
