Hackers for Hope golf to benefit cancer research this month

The 24th annual Hackers For Hope event will be held on Friday,  Sept. 21 at Wee Burn Country Club.

Hackers For Hope, which was started by cancer survivors and Darienites Al Smith and Tim Brown, supports cancer research and treatment programs at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Bennett Cancer Center, New York Weill Cornell Medical Center, and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

Twenty golfers play from dawn to dusk on Sept. 21 and friends, family and colleagues sponsor them. This years golfers include local residents; Jim Book, Pete Graham, Kevin Minicus, Taymore Zarghami, Jim Kellogg, John Fichthorn, Craig Jeffers, Foster Smith, Doug Henderson, Jeff Stute, Rick Klingman, Chris O’Connor, Tom Richardson, Hap Taylor and Mickey Callanen.

This year’s event will be a cocktail party format with an open bar and hors d’oeuvres buffet. Live music will be by the Right On Band – a seventies show band that has played worldwide including for three US Presidents and at Times Square New Year’s Eve celebrations.

There will also be a live and silent auction of varied and wonderful items procured by this year’s event committee: Barbra Bell, DeAnne Calcagnini, Tricia Gallagher, Jennifer Gulden, Susan Graham, Lisa Haas, Noelle Henderson, Susan Hamill, Alexandra Howe, Christine Kellogg, Margot Klingman, Pam Michaelowski, Mo Minicus, Mandi Morgan, Anne Mullin, Leigh Mulshine, Sheila O’Boyle, Beth O’Shea, Althea Perley, Courtney Platt, Jennifer Richardson, Sherry Ramsay, Sarah Sealy, Alison Shanahan, Michelle Sini, Kim Slonieski, Bill Schaefer, Nan Smith, Stacey Smith, Lizzy Walsh, Terrie Van de Graaf, Betsy Waine, Amy Wright, Rachel Zarghami.

Auction highlights include items such as vacation homes in Park City Utah, Nantucket, and Fishers Island, private dinners at Rowayton Seafood and Raos in New York City, Giants tickets with a tailgate provided by Palmer’s Market and a fine wine selection from Nicholas Roberts and much more.

Tickets are $150 per person. Tickets are available and donations can be made online at hackersforhope.org.
