Been putting off that back to school shopping? Now’s your chance to catch up.
Tax-free week, which started in 2000, returns this August, allowing a tax-free week from Sunday, Aug. 19 through Saturday, Aug. 25, for clothing and shoe purchases under $300.
The Darien gift certificate program run by the chamber was founded on the goal of supporting local businesses which do so much to enrich our community, Dick Kelsey, vice chairman of the board of Darien’s Chamber of Commerce said.
“Next week offers an opportunity for residents to realize additional benefits while enjoying Darien’s unique shopping experience,” he said.
“Much of the appeal of our wonderful town comes from the diversity of local shops and restaurants. The sense of pride shop owners feel about their businesses and about in Darien in general creates a great sense of community,” said First Selectman Jayme Stevenson.
“When you have a choice, please shop and dine right here in Darien,” Stevenson said.
“The timing is excellent for back-to-school shopping and many shops in Darien are hoping the surrounding community takes advantage of this opportunity,” said Chamber of Commerce President Carol Wilder-Tamme.
“Saving 6.35 percent is great at one store, and gets even better at the next,” she said.
