Norwalk man arrested for trying to steal brother’s identity

Eric Christian

Darien Police arrested a Norwalk man who tried to open a bank account in his brother’s name at the Bank of Darien in January.

Police received a call from the Bridgeport prison where Eric Christian, 28, was being held on an unrelated matter. Police had issued a warrant for Christian’s arrest after it was learned that he tried to open a checking account in the name of his brother, Thomas Christian.

The bank had received an alert that the real Thomas Christian had been the victim of identity theft and that since December 2011, there had been 10 attempts to open accounts in that name at several area banks, police said.

The Bank of Darien refused to open the account and Eric Christian left the bank. Christian has a prior arrest record, which includes criminal impersonation, identity theft, violation of probation and larceny, police said.

Christian faces identity theft and second degree forgery charges. He was held on a $50,000 bond and scheduled for court on Tuesday, July 31.
