12:45 PM — After another hot and humid day on Tuesday, Darien and the area could be facing another strong thunderstorm on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a hazardous weather outlook on Tuesday morning, July 17.
A Sunday night thunderstorm brought heavy rain to the area, causing some minor flooding and power outages. Another storm, expected to end the above-90 temperatures, is currently forecast for between Wednesday afternoon and midnight.
The cold front will approach from the northwest that afternoon, according to the National Weather Service, and then slowly push through the region Wednesday night. “Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening ahead of and along this front — with a threat of torrential rain, damaging winds, large hail and frequent lightning strikes,” the service said. “Any training convection will pose a threat for flash flooding.”
More showers and thunderstorms could come on Thursday, which could have a high of 86; Tuesday’s high will be near 92 and Wednesday’s 91.
The weekend is expected to be cooler. Friday’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies and a high near 79; Saturday is to be mostly sunny with a high near 80; and Sunday is to be mostly sunny with a high near 82.
