Letter: A proposal to limit sign blight

To the Editor:

I have a proposal for Darien to consider. Recently I heard of a town that set fines for political parties, tag sale/yard sale and fund raising events that neglected to remove their  advertising signs down within a few days after their events.

I think this is a great idea. Do you ride through Darien any given day and see ugly, various-sized signs on trees, telephone poles, etc. Talk about losing the charm of our town? Not only are they unattractive, they are untimely as the event has long passed.

So what if Darien gave same day or two-days allowance for the signs to be taken down or a fine of say $25 would be levied on the abuser?
